Wes Moore Event- Safari #12

     On Tuesday night( November 15th )at 7:30pm I attend The Wes Moore event , which took place in Lyman Hall. Over this summer I read "The other Wes Moore" by Wes Moore. To tell you the truth at first i wasn't very interested  in reading the book , but then I began read it and soon enough I didn't want to put the book down. In the book Wes Moore shares his story, and how an ironic circumstance in his life opened his eyes tremendously. After reading the book, I could believe that it was based on a true life story . Reading about Wes's life was very interesting. I was eager to attend his lecture and hear what he had to say.

     Wes started off by talking to the audience about the importance of getting involved. And how you should take part in bettering your community,"Take your talents and use them for something else than just yourself". He also talked about life in general and how people should follow their hearts and do what makes them happy. His advise is not  to write an autobiography till your at least 30 years old because you need to experience life before you begin to write about it and that the experience is also important .

     He discussed his book and its title, "The other Wes Moore" . He actually didn't want to the book to be called that ,but the publishers thought it would  be a good name. He said the title was dumb for several reasons, his main reason,  " no one knows who Wes Moore is, so why would they want to hear about the other on?". He continued to talk about his life and answered some questions, one of the questions asked was " If the criminal ( the other Wes Moore) had a different name would you have still been interested in the crime? Wes replied " no, just another faceless crime".  Wes later talked about how  initially he didn't want to write a book. A friend of his mentioned it  joking around. When he went to visit the other Wes Moore at jail one day he told him about what his friend said jokingly and the other Wes said that it was something he seriously should do. He said that since hes in jail and don't have the opportunity to tell his story so that he should tell it.

  Wes Moore's lecture  was very interesting. He has a very good outlook on life. He ended his lecture with a really deep and inspirational quote " When it's time to leave this planet make sure it matters that you were even there."
